Irish language, media and public sector
An Ghaeilge, na meáin agus an earnáil phoiblí
Who is Diarmaid Mac Mathúna?
I work at the intersection of the Irish language, media and the public sector, with a particular interest in language rights and official languages act compliance.
Oibrím i réimsí na Gaeilge, na meán agus na hearnála poiblí, le béim ar an méid atá i bpáirt acu. Tá spéis ar leith agam i gcearta teanga agus i gcomhlíonadh Acht na dTeangacha Oifigiúla.
I'm a highly motivated and results orientated manager with over 15 years of experience in strategic communications, integrated awareness-raising campaigns and linguistic services.
I have advised on strategic communications and implement integrated campaigns for EU agencies and institutions as well as Irish government clients, and also worked on corporate communications for business clients. I've been named a Top 30 Business Tweeter by the Sunday Independent and I'm fluent in both English and Irish.
I have advised on strategic communications, run multi-channel campaigns and carried out social media marketing for clients including the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg), the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC), the European Commission, the European Parliament, the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE), the European Training Foundation (ETF), EFSA, EIOPA, Zurich, SMBC Aviation Capital, and the Irish Cancer Society as well as developing successful documentary and programme ideas in the Irish language and in English for RTÉ and the BBC.
I have delivered exceptional results from strategic communications consultancy through to creative content production (including leading video production, graphic design and copywriting) and social media marketing, as well as TV and radio. Through audience-focused strategy, based on research and data, combined with communications planning and storytelling creativity, I have successfully implemented many innovative campaigns that engaged target audiences and delivered measurable results.
I've been a member of the Public Relations Institute of Ireland (PRII) and I've judged the Marketing Institute of Ireland's AIM Awards in the Irish-language category. I have spoken at Irish and European events, including at the European Parliament about fighting disinformation. I've also been quoted in the Irish Times, interviewed by RTÉ and contributed to the publications Communication Director, Irish Marketing Journal and The Market.
I'm educated to Masters level in Physics with a demonstrated track record in continued professional development including an Executive Diploma in Strategic Digital Marketing with TU Dublin and The Marketing Institute of Ireland.
Outside of work, I'm a mentor at my local GAA club and a keen cyclist.
